What is The Eden Alternative?
The Eden Alternative® is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to creating quality of life for Elders and their care partners, wherever they may live. Through education, consultation, and outreach, The Eden Alternative® offers person-directed principles and practices that support the unique needs of different living environments, ranging from the nursing home to the neighborhood street.
Loneliness, helplessness, and boredom are painful and destructive to our health and well-being. The Eden Alternative believes a caring, inclusive, and vibrant community enables all of us, regardless of age or ability, to experience well-being which moves us from quality of care to quality of life.
The Eden Alternative SPAIN
The Eden Alternative SPAIN, was started in 2020, to support and bring an alternative approach to the current progress in person-centered care and services for older adults in Spain, providing customized resources and education that supports the needs and wants of individuals and organizations committed to transforming aging services in Spain.
To improve the well-being of older adults and their care partners by transforming the communities in which they live and work, through the implementation of the Ten Principles of the Eden Alternative philosophy.
To eliminate loneliness, helplessness, and boredom by transforming the culture of aging in Spain.
Eden Alternative SPAIN Education
Education is at the core of everything we do. The Eden Alternative in SPAIN offers training/education/certifications, consulting services, and outreach to help organizations transform their culture of care. Support and guidance is vital to ensure long-term sustainability.
The Eden Alternative, although based on a simple philosophy, is a comprehensive approach that has to be applied and lived by all parties involved to ensure that the quality of life of residents and employees is improved.
Employees on all levels, as well as families, must be informed, educated, and encouraged to actively engage in this culture change process.
Eden Alternative SPAIN offers a variety of educational experiences designed to help individuals revolutionize the culture of care in their organizations.
Eden Alternative SPAIN Regional Coordinators
Walter O. Coffey and G. David Sprowl, founding managing partners of WD International Consulting, were appointed as the Eden Alternative International Regional Coordinators for SPAIN by the US Eden Alternative Home Office in November 2020. Having extensive experience in the field of aging, working in almost every area of the aging network throughout their careers, they are both Certified Eden Educators, have been featured at Eden International Conferences, and have certified over 1,200 Eden Associates in the United States.
